According to a front page article on this site, "As part of a range of parking permit charge increases Hounslow Council is planning to impose an additional £50 levy on most diesel cars in the borough." This proposed levy applies to CPZ area permits. While I appreciate the "green" motives which might be behind this proposal (although realistically it is probably just another scheme for raising revenue from hapless motorists) it does seem a trifle ironic that a Labour council should penalise those who were conned/encouraged into buying a diesel vehicle by the previous Labour government. Go Diesel we were told - it's much more environmentally friendly. The least the council should do is to have a 10 year moratorium on such increases - not everyone can afford a new car - especially when they have bought a diesel in good faith thinking that they were being environmentally responsible. I got a diesel precisely because I believed the government propaganda. Luckily, I saw which way the wind was blowing and changed back to petrol last year - not everyone is in a financial position to be able to do that. |
