They should monitor the non-recyclers which is much more obvious through the constant lack of any kind of recycling container on collection day. I think that it is safe to say that this has never been done in the whole of the ten or however many years the green and food boxes, the plastic and paper bags have been on the scene. The same people in my street are not recycling, and obviously so, so where is the gain? I agree that everything presents a trip hazard if left on the pavement and it is in any case expressly against Council instructions to put stuff out on the pavement, even though the majority of people do. Leaving it in one's small frontage as I have done however means that the recycling may not be taken (as with last week) due no doubt to it not being seen as it is blocked in by three walls and a wheelie bin/gas box forming the fourth 'wall'. I am awaiting an answer in writing from the Council re whether I can put everything out on the pavement which I would rather not do for the reasons outlined by you. Finally, what about the trip hazards we are all left with with the way the bin men most often throw the containers/bags right down in front of our doors once they have been emptied? I've been saying the same things for months now and I know that one of the Councillors has done some monitoring of the situation earlier this morning. Sigh. |
