Councillor Curran has been variously described as a coward, a bully and an idiot in the wake of this incident and he may indeed be any or all of these things, but what really is pernicious about this whole business is that Curran would appear to have deliberately targeted the man whom he deems to have been the organiser of the protest. And unless it is being suggested that Mr. Slattery hit or threatened to hit Councillor Curran with his mobile telephone then it occurs to me that the only reason the police might be holding it would be to ascertain whether or not Mr. Slattery had played an initiating role in the protest. In other words, in the eyes of both Curran and the police, Mr. Slattery's biggest crime would appear to have been to have allegedly played an organisational role in the protest against the introduction of the wheelie bins. Thus we see the police force being inadvertently used as a political pawn by a leader and an administration which actively shuns engagement and regards any form of disagreement with its diktats as a personal affront. Those who questioned why I moved my children into schools outside the reach of this local authority may hopefully now see my point. This is a nasty, vicious, vengeful, spiteful administration which is wholly fuelled by a sense of its own importance and entitlement. |
