Problem now is the retail trade is like a lot of businesses and industries before it is on the cusp of huge change. Most shops will become a thing of the past whether we like it or not. They have been priced out by over the top business rates and stupid rents which has handed the businesses on a plate to the internet traders. Apart from low margin businesses like cafes and grocery stores a variety of shops is just not going to happen and yet developers and councils still push through dream design developments that won't ever meet the concept or perception. Watermans is a classic example, in the last few weeks I have not met a single person at the place who wants it to move. To hear that yet again the council has deceived the tax paying public over parking kind of underlines the contempt they have for the residents and questions the sincerity and integrity it has towards genuine progress which puts its existing inhabitants first. Why they cannot just come clean and tell the truth is beyond me. It's the constant vale of fog that is most offensive |
