I live in FQ and my impression is most of the flats are occupied. There are a lot of young families (typically with infants/toddlers) and quite a few foreigners - I imagine expats on company lets. As to the restaurants... I looked at San Marco and Glistening Waters a few times but they always seemed very pricy and not very alive. I've eaten a few times in Poppadums: first time I found the food disappointing and avoided it but later visits were fine (though the place is a bit grubby, which I think suggests it's not doing too well) I have absolutely no problem with the houseboat moorings: in fact I like them being there, they add a bit of colour to a rather bland environment. I'm with Adam here. There's just not enough life in FQ to make it interesting, so it can't generate any passing trade. Personally I think the High Street redevelopment has the potential to be different: the High STreet itself has critical mass to attract shoppers etc and the various events seem pretty well attended. I think the redevelopment has a good chance of putting a new heart in Brentfrod and having the Watermans there would be a huge asset both to the town and, I think, the Watermans itself. |
