I've subscribed to Private Eye for about 50 years. There are bad people in local government and some corruption, but someone suggested that 'Local Government is a lot more prone to corruption than national government" That is nonsense, and comes from the Tory prejudice which is held by at least 2 on this very thread. I've been a councillor for 10 years but I have never seen anything that is beyond rumour here, other than one or two councillors who have been crooks or married to them. I was regularly accused of corruption, especially when I was on the planning committee, but I never saw it at all. It is lazy minds who accuse people of corruption without evidence. Agains Michelle Mone there is at least prima facie ex=vidence of a very big scam, though it has yet to see any proper investigation and I believe in the rule of law. |
