It doesn't have to be like that but we don't seem to have too many people willing to kick over the traces when circumstances demand. There's party loyalty and there's having the guts and nous to be an advocate and representative for the people who elected you when the situation arises. Members aren't whipped on all occasions so do have a degree of freedom, but that doesn't take into account the bullies. Incidentally a house in Church St. was struck by lightning yesterday and the fire crew couldn't get in because of the planters blocking their way, so had to back away and go all round by the hospital. That's twice in a few weeks that there's been a problem with the emergency services getting down there. |
