So, as Kellys says, Jack (John) Lane was running the premises in 1938. That lane was called "The Barracks" If, as Neil suggests, the Militia was based there, it perhaps means that Colonel Clitherow was in the boss..based at his posh home in Boston Manor Park...up the country lane to Hanwell. The Public Record Office is likely to have all the records for those based at the Barracks, details of their height and any scars etc..and the amount of money paid their families whilst they were away doing battle. My Dad used to spend hours at the PRO searching those sort of records. There must be old maps at Chiswick Library. |
