According to Gillian Clegg's book "Brentford and Chiswick Pubs" (ISBN 0-7524-3723-2), The Royal Horseguardsman is an "old beer house, first appearing in a directory of 1888 just as "Horseguardsman" Wonder where the "Royal" came from and when. The book continues "It's tiled entrance step bears the legend ""Ashby's Ales"" which was a Staines Brewery" The pub is located on the corner of Albany Road and Ealing..and it's dismise, together with the Pottery Arms and the Bricklayers Arms nearby, makes one wonder whats happening in this corner of Brentford. |
