Lambert and co are incapable of being honest. Hence ‘trials’ and ‘experiments’, none of which is backed up by meaningful research, just the jaundiced ‘findings’ of Dr Rachel Aldred and her team. The people who know their roads best are those who live there. It’s no coincidence that the areas around Junction Road, Windmill and Swyncombe also have high levels of car ownership. Visit those roads during the day and they are pretty empty. Visit in the evening or weekends and there are precious few parking spaces. Residents aren’t out for joy rides every day, they are using their vehicles for economic activity, either getting to and from work or physically using them to earn a living. There are at least three taxi drivers in my road alone. But it does bring me back to why residents in Swyncombe were handed a referendum yet everyone else is told their roads were in a consultation and thus majority arguments ignored. I’m sure Lambert can tear himself away from his pint or curry to give an honest answer. Or can he? |
