First, there's no big lie here. I am not anti-car either but I am in favour of having people have a second thought about driving in London. I have more or less stopped driving in London except when I was too ill to cycle, and the reason I cycle because it is better for the environment, cheaper, healthier and usually as quick as a car. Swyncombe Avenue was blocked with cars for large chunks of the day until we acted. The vast majority of people in Swyncombe were in favour. Of course, people who lived elsewhere (sometimes people who live in SLough and work in Ealing) were against it. It was (partly) my decision with other councillors and council officers, I never said anything other than I supported it and no lies involved, though I know some people disagree. The A4/Windmill junction was blocked by National Highways (who run the M4) and didn't bother to warn me as a ward councillor or the head of traffic in Hounslow, which is very poor. I still have no information beyond what was in that press release. I am told TfL have rerouted the E2 round the junction outside GSK |
