"Thames Water has been an abhorrent neighbour to thousands of residents for decades and the 'gassing off' of the digester seals has been a problem since the 1990's and was well documented as being a major odour source during the High Court trial where Thames was found guilty on 18 counts of negligence and /or mismanagement. The Council's weekly site inspections have confirmed this for years so it is surprising that the Council didn't enforce abatement of the problem within its Planning Consent for the £142million expansion of Mogden. They seem to have missed a golden opportunity to force Thames to do something positive to abate odour. We are also concerned that, in the spirit of 'Community Engagement', the Council didn't consult with MRAG's odour experts before coming to any agreement with Thames Water. We have asked the Council's Chief Environment Officer some days ago exactly how he thinks the installation of new 'sensors' will actually REDUCE the odour but he has not responded. Is this yet another tick box regime the Council is so famous for?" |
