| Please don't get me wrong, I've nothing against The Griffin. If you're happy waiting until Tuesday and then eating a burger, or Sunday for some roast beef, I'm sure you won''t find better. But it depends what you want out of life. I only eat out once or twice a month, as I prefer to save up for things like roast wood pigeon with pearl barley and hedgehog mushrooms on pureed swede. For that, I have to drive to Hammersmith. That said, it would be a terrible shame if someone turned pubs like the Griffin into poncy establishments which priced out the long standing residents. There are a lot of new people in Brentford, both owners and renters. Judging by the crowds at the Sunday market this week, some are prepared to fork out the folding for high end fodder. I hope, for the sake of the area, they might attract independent restauranteurs willing to take a chance and open up here. That, in turn, would kick start some kind of night life and attract more. Otherwise, we'll just end up with some chains. If we're lucky. |
