Theo Just in case you didn't know, the "straw man" technique is when you debunk an argument that the person you are challenging hasn't made, in a way which is designed to imply that that was indeed that person's argument. Or so I'm told. I rarely accuse others of being motivated by money because it is not something that typically enters my own thinking (Ann Keen excepted, as she was so blatant about it). I think it is to the detriment of local politics that councillors and their parties are put into the position of having to factor the effect on people's livelihoods into the decisions they make as to who does which job. That cannot be how it was intended to work. I am not Paul - neither am I Vanessa, or Keith, or Steve. They have their own opinions, I have mine - that is how it works. My opinion is that Jason was let down by his party at a time when he should have been left alone to concentrate on his academic development. Far from "roasting" him (I must assume you are ignorant of the other meaning of that term!) you will not find a single personal criticism of Jason in any contribution I have made to this thread. |
