Did not say it was, it is inherent in all british political parties. Certainly ineptitude is a common factor. Maybe I did not make that clear enough. Inexperience can be forgiven, everyone has to start and learn somewhere. But it does not help when first time councillors are given portfolios and cabinet positions or sit on planning or financial / contract handling committees with not proven experience or ability. A first elected term should demonstrate your ability to represent your local ward and it's electorate. It's a bit like teachers, everyone knows the good ones teach in the classroom and stay there, the bad ones cannot wait to get out of the classroom and 'administrate' or attend conferences, assist in 'timetableing' anything other than teach and yet somehow end up getting promotions. The real talent rarely gets a look in. But it is also very evident that whilst Tories seem to get caught in sex scandals and stupid gaffes, Labour get entwined more often in corruption. The record for local government is not good at all but unfortunately, it's Labour who are out in the lead for bad debts, and poor administration and incidences of malpractice over the last 25 years. Given the fundamental principles of Labour it is far from acceptable . But it is the party machine that will not act within and yet will act swiftly on other issues. And you are right, all the other parties are barely any better and have nothing to gloat about. |
