If you are talking about one specific instance of which you have personal knowledge then yours is probably a fair point. If you are speaking generally then it is arrogant and frankly outrageous to assume that research conducted by councils is always correct and that that commissioned by residents is likely to be flawed. This is, however, the prevalent mentality at Hounslow and probably at other councils too. A classic example was the recent Mogden planning application, where "evidence" from Hounslow's environment officer was treated with the utmost seriousness whilst the witness for the residents was humoured and his evidence completely ignored. And yet the resident who had worked on the case was himself an environment officer at a neighbouring borough! |
