| To be fair Steve, although I must admit I was totally unaware of it at the time (I was 25 and perhaps a little naive) even just before I joined LBH the Scrutiny Panel/Ombudsman etc. had already been investigating a couple of the Area Committees, so it isn't a new thing. And I'm sure plenty of good staff have joined LBH since I left. Whether they've stayed is another matter, although certainly the antics weren't the reason why I left. To be honest, if I had to go back to the public sector now and you asked me to choose between Hounslow and Hillingdon, whereas I'd relatively happily return to Hounslow I would shoot myself before returning to Hillingdon - I remain surprised that some people I used to know well and held in high professional regard still work at Hillingdon (unlike my deputy who very bravely and unselfishly handed in his resignation the day after I was paid off on the grounds that he wasn't going to work somewhere who treated good staff like that). |
