Hounslow Libdems were at Lampton School today meeting with sixth formers. Lots of Isleworth residents just reaching voting age attending the school and all in all a very engaged group of young men and young women. We had a good debate around the relative merits of a student loan system versus a graduate tax. They were very interested in national and International politics and in learning more about local democracy. Alistair Hinds, the sixth form master at the school will be bringing a group of his politics students to the election count at the Civic Centre on Friday. We were told the school was designed for 700 students and is now oversubscribed with around 1400. They were recently awarded a £2m cash injection from the ‘Healthy Pupils Capital Fund Grant’, funded by the new sugar tax ,to build a state-of-the-art dining area and performing arts facility for students. |
