| As an Isleworth ward councillor prior to 2010 I can assure you Suzi that an awful lot of time and effort was dedicated to trying to achieve some relief for the people of Church Street who were suffering unreasonable volumes of traffic. Countless meetings were held involving not just councillors and officers but also residents, amenity groups and other stakeholders. Some improvements were made - not enough I grant you - and speed restrictions implemented. This process would have continued and intensified whoever had won the ward in 2010. What we were not prepared to do was to implement solutions which only benefited Church Street without any regard for the wider community of Isleworth, and without consultation of any kind. In view of the fact that our successors were prepared to do just that, I can of course understand your enthusiasm and support for them looking at it from a purely Church Street perspective. But I make absolutely no apologies for having taken a more holistic view. Lastly I note that ice cream is listed alongside the organic meats and designer breads that are to purveyed at this select event. Now why am I not surprised? |
