The GLC -Remember them?- Actually passed an all boroughs ban on large vans and light trucks parking in residential streets way back in 1977. It is still on statute and is enforcable. It was part of the GLC lorry ban which restricted large trucks to certain routes at certain hours. Ealing has the signs on most of it's lamposts although CPz signs seem to replace them. This was free to all residents of all London boroughs. Enforcable by patrolling police, traffic wardens and GLC registered council enforcement officers. Seems to me a bit of enforcing would remove the 2 tonne long wheelbase vans at least- which are the main culprits in using up too much space. Most ordinary vans are barely any longer than the many 4WD steriod cars parked around. |
