I completely agree with you, Bernadette - although I'd point out that it is NOT for free at present. We already pay plenty for road tax, council tax, income tax and all the rest. Why should we have to pay yet more for stuff we already pay for? Especially when I have a very strong suspicion that much of the push behind the whole CPZ thing comes from empire-building middle managers in the council bureaucracy who will use the extra fees/fines generated to increase the size of their departments (more CEOs, more junior bureaucrats) and thereby increase their own "status" in the bureaucracy. |
