The bridge doesn't belong to CRT or British Waterways beforehand. Any bridges that spanned canals were granted access from the canal company of that time ( for a fee) to enable land owners to pass from one side to the other( the canal being private property). Bridges owned by canal companies would have only served a purpose for operating on or used by that company with the entire structure footed within their land ownership. I would imagine the bridge would have been constructed to provide access to Boston Manor Park from the Great West Rd back in the 80s. The number plaque identified by Guy is purely to aid wayfinding and inspections, all bridges that span the canal will be numbered regardless of ownership. |
