Joan Adamson explained " He replied that they were waiting for an engineer to come out to inspect the damage and report back." Presumably all will depend on what they find when they lift all the decking panels. Ideally if the correct species of timber was used elm or oak there should be no rot and so no problem. But if not... Presumably the statutory obligation of the Trust to prevent parts of the bridge from falling onto barges passing underneath far exceeds any inclination they might feel to restore the bridge to full working condition without financial assistance from somewhere... I always find it best to take the most pessimistic view possible of these things, in the hope one day of being surprised and proved totally wrong. Not that its ever worked so far. michael adams |
