The whole point of these schemes, promoted remember by central government, is that people have realised that if we all get into cars when lockdown ends the whole place will gridlock. Public transport capacity will be greatly reduced and in order for those who actually need to use cars to be able to get anywhere, the rest of us will have to use cars less. More than 40% of people in London have no access to a car anyway (less in outer London). I followed a man with his (approx) 3 year old and approx 8 year old cycling along Jersey Road as well as residential roads in Osterley today. 3 Y-O was on the pavement in busy Jersey Road but man and 8 y-o were on the road as was 3 Y-O in the residential roads. There is no reason why we should not be aspiring to that and making our roads fit for it. In fact, there is no realistic option. |
