New article has just come out re the Olympics, and the Environment Agency have finally gone public with the knowledge they've had for ages regarding sewerage levels in the Lea. Almost postscripted is a bit of info on general odour concerns, - maybe these issues are being taken more seriously at a wider level? http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,4662-2137751_2,00.html A code has been drawn up by Ben Bradshaw, the Minister for Local Environment Quality, in an attempt to reduce odours that blight neighbourhoods near many water-treatment plants and pumping stations. A local resident must first gauge the intensity of a smell and make a complaint to environmental health officers. Council officers will then decide if a water company should take steps to reduce the smell. Guidance from Mr Bradshaw says: “There is a clear public demand to minimise the impact of unpleasant odours from waste water treatment works.” |
