And Phil, I am not trying to be contentious, I just genuinely think people don't realise how much it costs to provide a parking facility with the very high cost of land and the cost of reasonable maintenance.  You only have to look at public areas, like parks etc. that are not maintained to see how quickly they deteriorate with flytipping, graffiti etc. I'd much rather pay a parking fee if it guaranteed a clean, safe place to park.
