| I live in a flat in a newish development. Why? because it costs less than a 'traditional' terraced house in Brentford. This idea that they are high end luxury developments is largely a myth, though there are a few high priced properties. We generally insist on 40% of new build being 'affordable' - either at rental levels heavily discounted from market rates so that they are accessible to people who rely on benefits, or shared ownership. The Ballymore development has a lower affordable ratio but will nevertheless deliver 96 council flats which will be available only to people on the housing list. |
