Geez thanks Bernard, town planners are worse than murderers... So what's your magical solution ?. The population is every increasing and that's a trend that is only going to continue (unfortunately). People don't want the countryside built upon, so instead in order to accommodate the ever-increasing population there's taller, smaller residential units being built in the cities. For me personally, to follow your extreme suggestion, I'd tax the hell out of large families and generally create a society which made having large families as frowned upon as drink-driving etc., on the basis that population growth is the no. 1 threat to this planet. I'd make it a legal requirement in these modern times that many office-based employers forced their employees to work from home, to reduce unnecessary journeys and the associated pollution etc, reduce the amount of unnecessary office buildings etc, rather than such employers merely saying "oh if you want you can work from home occasionally". People do as they please, people will have 5 kids and enjoy plundering the ever-depleted natural resources, people will get in their cars to drive 5 miles to their desk because they're lazy sods and because their employees think it's important to have everyone sat at their desks being accountable. The problem is people, not town planners. |
