There's clearly a lot of concern about the Church Street closure and yes, I have witnessed it myself, though mainly on a bike. I tend not to get too closely involved because it's not on my patch and you have 3 councillors in Isleworth and 3 in Syon who are more directly involved. I still get a lot of mail about it and it is balanced about 55/45 with a slight majority of people supporting the closure though it tends to be the same people writing often and I don't put much credence on the 'poll' arrived at this way. There's no doubt that an already congested road has got more congested, but this comes as a surprise to nobody. The question is whether things improve over the coming weeks. Closing the north side of Trafalgar Square was a traffic disaster initially but I don't hear anybody arguing it should be reopened. |
