Yes, you are the new councillor Guy. And I'm sure you are not seriously expecting me to trawl through hundreds of your posts to find specific references, however my recollection is clear and in any case a short, random search of just a small selection of your posts unearthed the following: 1. A derogatory blanket reference to "you guys" on the Curry for Corbyn thread (30th August 2015) 2. A suggestion that nobody using this forum can read on the Redlees Festival thread (13th September 2015) 3. A contemptuous blanket reference to the "usual suspects" on the Morrisons Supermarket Site for Sale thread (3rd October 2015) 4. A similarly dismissive reference to "the carping set" on the Missed Opportunity by LBOH thread (1st November 2015) Nevertheless you miss my point, which was not to single you out as an especially discourteous individual (you are not), but to paint a more generic picture of the institutional contempt in which the organisation which you represent in our community holds us as members of the public. A picture which, given the recent attitude and antics of your leader in respect of Church Street and the wheelie bins, to name just two issues, I think you would be on dodgy ground to say the least to even try to challenge. And yes, I acknowledge the old chestnut - much beloved of politicians who like nothing better than to play divide and rule in the community - that residents do sometimes disagree amongst themselves on individual issues. And yes, like everybody else, you are entitled to your own opinion on all of them. But please do not be so arrogant as to assume that the politican's way is "the right way" to deal with them. There remains a view held by many that public opinion still counts for something - and that view does not disappear, and never will, just because a well-oiled national political machine has the resources to suppress it from time to time. In the long run ideas can only be defeated by better ideas. As indeed I'm sure you are quite well aware. |
