Actually that's not at all true. The Watermans has probably the most eclectic selection of films of any arts based cinema and probable the most mainstream selection too. They do show childrens and teeanagers films and they even have a mother and baby film, (although if you don't like the smell of baby milk don't go to the showing after!) If you want to go and see disney stuff or Vin Diesel then there are plenty of Cinemas that show that stuff but it's box office american stuff aimed at a target wide audience. Foreign films require one skill to be able to read subtiltes . They are generally excellent films as are those smaller budget British films many of which don't get to the general release of the chain cinemas and sometimes it's only when they win an oscar or a bafta that this happens. That's not to say that all foreign films are great. Some are real howlers and others make watching paint dry interesting. But then again, big mainstream films can be just as big a miss. Personally, the cinema is the Jewel in Watermans Crown and the only thing that they really have got right over the last few years. |
