This is the point, it is well supported in the mainstream things it puts on. The Cinema is well supported even with some of the more obscure films and the balance it has between mainstream and cultural films is just about right. The Richmond cinema (s) are very expensive and although we used to go it caters for a very different clientele. Watermans is a success because it it priced right for most local people. Especially older people. One forgets that just because current house prices are stupid in this part of London and now only the domain of the very well paid, most people including home owners around here are of modest incomes and low incomes. Something our councillors have completely forgotten and assume that only council tenants are of low income. Far from reality. In this aspect watermans does have it right. It's a shame it could not have the place next door and have a arts materials retailer and a crafts school and so on and rehearsal rooms for hire. ( Sky and the various independent production cos are stuck for rehearsal space with parking and facilities.) Brentford town is so dead that it lost it's arts and crafts shop. No-one was interested - which indicates what it may well be like if it moves |
