"...but I still find it very strange that he has a close friendship with a present Isleworth councillor who was enjoying an extremely jovial chat with a BNP candidate at the recent election count". Paul, My understanding is that the Isleworth councillor to whom you refer went up to the aforementioned BNP candidate using very colourful language and immediately took him to task over his affiliation. I believe that some sort of conversation then ensued. The reason she spoke to him was because she previously knew him (albeit in a professional capacity) though at that time had no knowledge of his political allegiance. Some weeks prior to the count (shortly after the nominations closed) I had a phone conversation with her in which I just happened to mention the name of the Brentford resident who was standing for the BNP in a certain ward in the west of the borough. (I did this because I wanted to highlight to her the standard BNP practice of not fielding candidates in the area they live - as their allegiance can obviously sour relations with the neighbours). She recognised his name immediately, and was gobsmacked. Because of where his count was positioned in relation to the Isleworth count, the two of them were bound to see each other at some point during the course of the proceedings, and so she took the opportunity to 'have a go'. I certainly hope it wasn't "an extremely jovial chat", but I accept that that's your interpretation. |
