| There was a working group for most of my latter years as a councillor where residents, councillors, officers and representatives of local civic and amenity groups got together to try to resolve the issues around Church Street and Old Isleworth in general. The meetings were full of goodwill and I remember in particular the wonderful efforts of the officer Jay Gopal, who was very proactive in trying to move things forward. Unfortunately the wheels at the Civic Centre generally turned far more slowly and too much talking and not nearly enough action was the inevitable outcome. I remain convinced that with a little more buy-in from all concerned we could have found an acceptable solution which didn't make things more difficult for the wider population around Isleworth and beyond. We certainly wouldn't have considered the interests of any one group of residents in isolation. |
