It really was dreadful. It's quite clear the council have no intention to review the process; they will push on with the closure, despite the huge opposition just because they can. They had nothing to say about the implications for the surrounding area, and have no ideas how to deal with the problems they will create by closing the road. They are just arrogantly digging. I spoke to Cllr Curran at the end of the meeting he said that he had listened to what had been said but the decision to close had already been made and so it will go ahead. I challenged him and said if he really had listened he had to come up with a solution - he had no answer. The residents of Church Street don't even seem convinced that closure is the best option... I think they would probably agree to proper traffic calming measures but as was repeatedly said tonight, that's never been given as an option. Well done to all those involved in getting the meeting in the first place - keep pushing. |
