Phil, Yet more unwarranted assumptions from you. It is indeed natural that people who voted for parties that ended up without any councillors will not be confident that either of the two main parties will represent them and their concerns. And I agree that it doesn't follow that the LBH Watch must be an ICG front group. But I said earlier that it looks like that to me. With no overt support from John Connelly's group or the Lib-Dems, and with prominent ICG members in key roles in LBH Watch, that is still my perception. I accept that you want to broaden its base, and that is good. I am not discomfited by the emergence of a new residents' group, though I am not yet convinced that we need one, especially so soon after an election. I do have concerns about the consistency of the story, e.g. "cross-party support" and "formed in the aftermath of a lost election" have been needlessly contentious issues. But I'll wait and see how LBH Watch performs in practice before commenting further. Your last two paragraphs reflect your own view of the local election result rather than mine. |
