Members or supporters of all the main political parties are represented on the body as it currently exists. Certainly I can think of at least one member of the Liberal Democrats and one member of the Labour Party, and I know at least two of the participants are Conservative supporters but I couldn't say whether or not they are paid-up members. I also believe Conservative councillors in Osterley are aware of the new group and have been kept posted regarding aspects of its work. For clarification, by "cross party" it is meant that all the major political viewpoints are represented. Neither Ian nor I mean to imply that the group has the official endorsement of any of the organisations themselves. In any event the essential point of the reference was to emphasise that it is not the purpose of the new group to pursue any specific party political agenda. Recognition of an appropriate relationship between members and officers should benefit councillors of all persuasions, and thereby their constituents. Hope this clarifies things. |
