Local Authorities must be delighted at the timing of the release of the Taxpayers Alliance report into Council staff on over 100k - at any other time I reckon there would have been a considerable response from the general public, but it has gone buried beneath all the election talk. Personally, and talking from a general perspective, I find it disgusting that whilst, at the same time as most Councils are employing several people on more than 100k (in my view only the Chief Executive of any Council should be on 100k plus) and awarding them significant (e.g. 16.7%) pay rises on such salaries, the same Councils are making financial cuts to frontline services including making staff redundant whose annual salaries are most likely to be less than the 16.7% pay rise awarded - there is simply no justification for doing so. I read Councillor McGregor's comments about this and found them rather laughable, as though the public should be grateful for afew Senior Managers to stick around...who wouldn't stick around for 100k plus salary, massive pay rises, pension schemes and lots of annual leave, especially during these economic times ?!. |
