Steve Not my area of responsibility at LBH, but just for simple clarification: Potholes are detected by highways inspectors and/or reported by members of the public, bus companies etc. They are inspected and if they meet the required intervention levels they are fixed ASAP. These levels are the same right across the borough. There is no sense that workers are despatched with further haste in response to requests by Members of any political persuasion, although local Members can and do of course report potholes just like anyone else. Potholes are a routine matter and don’t usually get discussed at Area Committee meetings. Local street and footway resurfacing is a different matter and the Area Committees receive and consider an annual report showing streets and footways proposed for resurfacing, which are prioritised according to condition, usage and available funds. The recent snow/freeze/thaw has increased the number of potholes appearing and being dealt with right across London and the UK. |
