I think you're wrong on one important thing Michael. Responding to your last paragraph ... cyclists ARE the most  dangerous on the road ... after dusk, no lights,dark clothing, often at speed, disregarding a cycle lane zebra crossing at a bus stop island, not wearing a florescent jacket, nor having a cycle bell. For older pedestrians such dangerous cyclists appear "out of nowhere". The southside of the High Street bus stop outside Victoria Quays,in Brentford is lethal. Passengers step off the bus DIRECTLY ONTO A CYCLE LANE. You write and no doubt speak well but there are shortcomings in your pronoucements.
