If there has been any thought given to the political implications of the closure I would imagine the conclusion drawn would have been that the Tories could never win Isleworth and if the community tries to organise the party on a regional and even national level will throw the kitchen sink at it again. Thus the calculation will have been that the incumbent councillors are untouchable and can afford to ride this particular storm. One really amusing sideshow has been the councillor who is telling everyone who will listen that she secretly opposes the closure but voted for it because she would "get in trouble" if she did otherwise.
