Church street has been a through road probably since it was first built. Along with every road in London the traffic density has increased in line with the increase in car ownership and population density. To label it a 'rat-run' and then close it for this reason is utterly missing the point and shows a level of narrow minded thinking that is bordering on the pathetic. It's a road in London! It will have traffic and the traffic will be more than the people who live on it would like. The people that live on the road bought their properties knowing it's a through road and no doubt knowing the price of their homes was a bit cheaper because of it. You can't buy a house and then close a road because you don't like the traffic on it, at least not in a democratic society!! |
