Thanks for this Matt - I live in one of the roads around Griffin Park and I know that there is an appetite for a CPZ right now. I think it's also understood that not everyone wants it, and it's not going to be perfect. What would be good, however, is if residents could be involved in the drawing up of detailed plans - the way you describe the process is that households will be invited to an exhibition of plans that are already drawn up - something of a fait accompli. Having been involved in these things before, I know quite well that by the time you reach the exhibition stage, although it is called 'consultation', it's really a presentation of the way things are going to be. If you read through this thread, you'll see that while many are broadly in favour of a CPZ, or at least accept it may be inevitable, there is widespread agreement that the council MUST take into account the needs of the area and how things work now - and refrain from a surfeit of yellow lines, loading bays and parking places, simply because 'that's how it's always done'. Detailed plans need to be drawn up in partnership with the residents. |
