There does seem to be a need amongst Highways Depts to needlessly overcomplicate things to the detriment of residents. The traffic calming scheme in Lionel Road North has been a classic example of this. Countless parking spaces were lost to accommodate the entirely unnecessary chicanes (which do not significantly slow down anybody) when the whole thing could have been done extremely cheaply, without the loss of parking spaces, by installing old fashioned "sleeping policemen" which are much more effective against speeding. |
