Yes, agreed, and whilst his phrasing might have been somewhat clumsy I don't think Guy meant that Officers aren't looking closely to check that what is being done accords with the consent. Not always true about big developers though. My largest client is one of the big multinational fast food operators and even though, in planning terms, whether the applicant is local resident Joe Bloggs or a big multinational company is completely irrelevant to how the application is determined, the reality is that the big company will be given a much harder time by the public, Officers and Members. Definitely agree on your last point though, although the question is why don't people stay ?. Having spent half of my 20 year career in each sector, I think the public sector is a wonderful learning ground and offers great opportunities to broaden your knowledge and experience, but equally there is no way I would ever go back to the public sector now. |
