The building is being rebuilt using most of the original materials. Some (such as roof beams) were rotten and have been replaced, partly by steel to support the different internal layout required for a dwelling house, partly by timber. Original bricks and roof tiles (albeit the roof tiles are from the 1990s) are being reused. Nobody is happy that the building was partly demolished but we will end up with a securely constructed version of the original using much of the original material. This is actually better than the building between the Express Tavern and Kew Bridge station. That was totally demolished and has been rebuilt with new materials but preserving the original appearance, virtually indistinguishable from the NISA stores building which forms part of the same terrace and was not demolished. I'm very happy with the outcome of that, as are people who are much better qualified than I am. If people are worried about Sarah Trimmer Hall they may wish to direct their energies towards opposing the latest planning application which seeks to split the building into 2 units rather than complaining on this forum. |
