It boils down to organisation, and motivation. Labour have a very well-organised party machine in Hounslow. The Tories are happy with their nine seats in Chiswick, and mug off their own supporters by pretending otherwise. The Lib Dems don't seem to have much of a local party structure right now, and the Greens seem to contest local elections as a moral duty rather than with the objective in mind of actually trying to win seats. UKIP shot themselves in the foot last time around by getting into bed with local Labour and became a laughing stock as a consequence. As the saying goes, if things don't change they'll stay the same. And where local Labour is concerned, the only realistic option for change as I see it is from within. Dare we to dream? |
