As is well known I am no fan of Phil, however I have to say (purely from my point of view) throwing his lot in with your rotten bunch was a naive and costly error. Once they had got cocky enough to believe they would win the borough outright the ICG's days were most definitely numbered. Tories are the most dirty, backstabbing, lying bunch of b******s in politics. I know Phil thinks that his association with them was not what lost the seats, as he pointed out all the other independents lost too. However, he at least was possibly better known in his area than the others were in theirs, so the Tory alliance was damaging as far as I can see, not to mention the education budget cuts in particular, especially the choices he made personally in his family's interests. I just think people took a very dim view of that, and along with the General Election on the same day it made the perfect storm politically. |
