LOL! It's amazing how quickly David Giles changes tact (guided, as always, by party political expediency). It was only a few days ago that he was buttering up the ICG on this very forum (presumably because he thought his party would once again be able to form a coalition with them after the election). But now that the ICG is no longer of any use to the Tories, the finger-pointing begins. I suspect that if there is a council by-election anywhere, David will be raising the issue of Phil's background (as he did in the 2002 Hounslow South by-election) even though he has subsequently stated that he thinks Phil is a changed man. Turning to the ICG, surely the fact that they required the Conservatives to give them a clear run is proof that they are not a genuinely independent non-political organisation at all. Their request for the Tories to stand aside (thus enabling them to monopolise the centre-right vote) says a lot about their ideology, and also shows how fundamentally weak they have become. After all, let it not be forgotten than the ICG won in 2006 despite both the Tories AND the Lib Dems fielding candidates. P.S.:- One of my Labour Party contacts in Isleworth was practically popping champagne corks when it became apparent that the Tories were running a full slate of candidates. And how did I feel about that news? Take a look:- :^) :^) :^) :^) Thanks for all of your help, David!! |
