Dan You have me at a disadvantage because I don't know where you are or have been a school governor, but the situation in Hounslow today is not necessarily typical. There is a tendency towards control-freakery here which I haven't always picked up from my limited knowledge of other areas. But it is a matter of absolute fact that New Labour activists in Hounslow are encouraged by their party to take up school governorships, in the same way that they are encouraged to join and take control of residents' groups. There is just too much testimony to this effect coming to my own group from former party members for this not to be the case. It is my opinion that the organised nature of this activity renders it unlikely that altruism is the primary motive for this. Vanessa's over-sensitive reaction to my comments reinforces the view that I hold. Anybody reading my earlier comments can see for themselves that they were not an attack on school governors per se. Vanessa is a former New Labour councillor of many years however and is a past master of the dark art of spin. Anyway, I'm aware that this conversation has drifted somewhat off topic so as a courtesy to other visitors if anybody wishes to discuss my children instead might I suggest they start a new thread? |
